F2F — Slack Integration Gone Wrong (and what to do)

Slack Integration Troubleshooting Guide

If you're seeing "Authorization failed" when trying to integrate Slack, here are the most common reasons on your end:

1. Workspace Admin Permissions

  • Most Common Issue: You need to be a Workspace Admin or Owner to install the app
  • How to Check:
  • Go to your Slack workspace
  • Click on your workspace name → "Settings & Administration"
  • If you don't see "Workspace settings," you don't have admin rights
  • Solution: Ask your Slack workspace admin to perform the integration

2. Browser Issues

  • Cookie/Privacy Settings: Some strict browser settings can interfere with the OAuth redirect
  • Quick Fix:
  • Try using Chrome in regular (non-incognito) mode
  • Ensure third-party cookies are enabled
  • Disable any ad-blockers temporarily

3. Organization Security Settings

  • Restricted App Installations: Your Slack workspace might have restrictions on app installations
  • How to Check:
  • Workspace Admins can check: Settings & Administration → Workspace Settings → Permissions → App Installation Settings
  • Common Restrictions:
  • "Only allow approved apps to be installed"
  • "Block all third-party apps"

4. Network/Firewall Issues

  • Corporate Networks: Some company networks block OAuth redirects
  • Solution:
  • Try from a different network (e.g., mobile hotspot)
  • Ask IT to whitelist *.face2face.io and *.slack.com domains
